New BCD396XT

I ordered a Uniden BCD396XT this week and it arrived on Wednesday afternoon.  I’ve programmed it with ARC XT Pro and have had the chance to play around with it a little bit.  I’ve used it to monitor the Glynn County TRS and the FLETC TRS in Brunswick and so far have nothing but a favorable view of the radio.  Based on monitoring the FLETC TRS, the digital audio quality is very much improved over the BCD396T.  I haven’t had the chance to try it on milair or aviation yet and I still want to see how it works on more digital systems.  As soon as I have had the chance to do more with the radio I’ll write up a blog post about my thoughts on the radio.

One feature I have played around with a bit is the Unit ID feature, which displays radio IDs during trunked system transmissions; it is a very interesting and potentially useful monitoring tool.
