2011 Hurricane Awareness Tour Stops at Savannah

I am very much looking forward to participating in the 2011 Hurricane Awareness Tour tomorrow when it stops in Savannah along with one of NOAA’s P-3 Hurricane Hunter aircraft.  I’ll be helping man the Amateur Radio Emergency Service booth along with other hams from the Coastal Georgia area.  For more information on times and locations, see the information from the NWS in Charleston below:

Who? General public
What? The “Hurricane Awareness Tour” will be making a stop in Savannah, Georgia and you are invited to take a FREE tour of a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) P-3 “Hurricane Hunter” aircraft. This type of aircraft is used by researchers to collect valuable data in and around tropical systems threatening the United States, Central America, and the Caribbean. Additional aircraft will also be on display.

Why? Great opportunity to see a “Hurricane Hunter” plane as well as meet meteorologists from the National Weather Service in Charleston, SC, National Hurricane Center and Air Force Reserve. There will also be a brief presentation and booths highlighting hurricane safety/preparedness, as well as other emergency-related vehicles on display.
