Yesterday was a great day for monitoring military aviation activity! In addition to the SC ANG F-16s I posted about the day previously, it turns out NSAWC aircraft are working out of MCAS Beaufort! It made for quite a lot to listen to. Another interesting catch of the day was rare A-10 vs. F-15 aerial combat training in the Coastal MOA between A-10s from Moody AFB and F-15s from Jax IAP.
F/A-18s and/or F-16s from the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center (NSAWC) at NAS Fallon are currently operating out of MCAS Beaufort. Yesterday they flew in the SEALORD special use areas off of the Georgia and South Carolina coast including flying as adversaries against a flight of VMFA-115 F/A-18s from Beaufort. More adversary work can be expected to be heard through the rest of the week. As usual, they’ve been using TOPGUN as their callsign and have been using VFA-86’s old Base frequency 354.400 for their Base frequency while at Beaufort. The air-to-air frequencies I heard them using yesterday were:
For the activity in the offshore SUAs, keep an ear on 284.500, 313.700, 349.800, 376.900, and 385.300. To catch them as the depart and return to MCAS Beaufort, keep and ear on these ATC frequencies:
119.050/342.675 – Tower
328.425 – Beaufort Approach/Departure
292.125/125.125 – Beaufort Approach/Departure
