Jekyll Island Photos; 9-13 April 2012

Here’s a collection of photos I took over the last week at Jekyll Island while “playing radio.”  It was a week of seeing some interesting stuff.

First up is a photo of a Bald Eagle I took from the fishing pier next to the Jekyll Bridge.  Earlier in the week I had seen it on one of the power poles along the Jekyll Causeway but it took off before I could get close enough to get a photo.

This photo is of an interesting boat that’s been anchored in the Intracoastal Waterway off of the Jekyll Island Marina, the O.A. Bloxom – it’s over 100 years old.  For more information on the O.A. Bloxom, see this Florida Times-Union article from 2008.

Army and Navy helicopters did approach work at the Jekyll Island airport throughout the week; on April 10, I caught NAVY HR 516, an SH-60B from HSL-48 at NS Mayport, FL.

On Thursday morning, it was quite windy on Jekyll and it attracted a pair of para surfers.  Whenever there are para surfers at Jekyll, I always find it fun to stop and watch them for awhile; they can go quite fast and the good ones are not only fast but graceful.  The early morning position of the sun made for interesting lighting conditions.
