Amateur Radio: Special Event Stations To Look For; 30 November -1 December 2012

30 Nov – 1 Dec, 1600Z-0019Z, AA4UT – SEC Championship Game Special Event:  The Southeastern Conference Amateur Clubs will again operate a  special event on the day of the SEC Championship Football game December 1st 2012. The clubs will be working at random times and frequencies beginning Friday, 30 November and ending one hour before kickoff of the game at 4:00 EST on Saturday, 1 December.  A certificate will be available for stations making contact with any SEARC station during the event.  A $4 donation is appreciated to cover printing and mailing with a return self address label that will be cut and applied to the envelope for the certificate return.  Please send QSL Card with QSL information of the contact.  Please do not send return envelopes, they will provide the return envelope and postage. 1 Dec, 1600Z-2300Z, W3R – 25th Anniversary Holiday Train Show:  W3R will be operating from the Western Pennsylvania Model Railroad Museum for the 25th Anniversary of its Holiday Train Show.  Operations will be on or near 28.400, 14.250, 7.240, and 7.050. 1 Dec,  1700Z-2300Z, W9CAP – 71st Anniversary of the Civil Air Patrol:  The Illinois Wing of the Civil Air Patrol, the United States Air Force Auxiliary, will be operating as W9CAP to celebrate the Civil Air Patrol’s 71st Anniverary.  They’ll be operating on or near 18.125, 14.250, and 7.255.  QSL via ILWG CAP, Major Ron Walerowicz, 5912 N Northwest Hwy, Chicago, IL 60631.

1-4 Dec, 1000Z-2200Z, GB0IDD – UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities:  The Wakefield District Radio Society in Wakefield, England will be operating as GB0IDD in recognition recognition of International  Disability Day.  They’ll be operating on or near 28.500 and 18.140.  They request that you QSL only by EQSL.   Website:

Saturday, 1 December is also the 14th Annual Skywarn Recognition Day.  Amateur Radio Stations at National Weather Service offices throughout the country will be on the air throughout the 24 hour period from 0000Z-2400Z to celebrate the contributions of Skywan volunteers.    Skywarn is a volunteer program of the National Weather Service which utilizes trained volunteers to report severe weather to National Weather Service offices.  Many Skywarn volunteers are also amateur radio operators and in some instances, amateur radio is used to pass those severe weather reports.  Stations participating in Skywarn Recognition Day will be operating on a variety of bands and modes.  Click here for a list of participating stations and QSL information.

For the Coastal Georgia, of the two NWS offices covering our area – NWS Charleston and NWS Jacksonville – NWS Charleston is scheduled to be on the air.  They plan on operating on 80, 40, 20, 15, 10, 6, and 2 Meters as well as 70cm using SSB and FM.  I have not seen NWS Jacksonville scheduled to be on the air.
