This weekend is Winter Field Day but there are also a number of special event stations scheduled for the weekend. The ARRL Puerto Rico State Convention will be on the air as W1AW/KP4. Australia Day is this Saturday and Australian hams may be heard using a different prefix than usual. This weekend also sees Kansas Day, the anniversary of the worst blizzard in Ohio history, the celebration of the formation of the USAF 8th Air Force, and the recognition of the release of the film “Hot Rods to Hell.” Other special event stations will honor the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and utilize a former shortwave broadcast antenna complex.

26 Jan, WW2COS – 71st Anniversary of the Mighty Eighth Air Force: The Coastal Amateur Radio Society will be operating a special event station from the radio compartment of the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum’s B-17 “City of Savannah” to celebrate the 71st birthday of the 8th Air Force whose history began on 2 January 1942 in Savannah.
