On 27 December 2013, Savannah Fire and Emergency Services worked a structure fire in the 2200 block of Ogeechee Rd. I happened to be in the shack at the time and set up ID Tracker III to record audio on the Fireground talkgroup (SEGARRN TG 2311 – SFES FG1) the units on scene were using. I thought some of my readers might be interested in what firefighting communications sound like, so I converted the .wav file (approximately 12 minutes long) over to .mp3 to post on the blog:
If you’re an amateur radio operator interested in participating in ARES, listening to audio like this can also familiarize you with the incident command system. Ham radio-wise, I’ve often found that I can learn something from listening to incident communications – things to do, things not to do, etc.
