2015 24 Hours of Le Mans – Almost Halfway

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is almost halfway through and it’s still a terrific race. Audi and Porsche continue to have a tight battle at the front of LMP1 and Aston Martin and Corvette are still having a great fight at the front of GTE-Pro. LMP2 was looking to have a good fight, but attrition has claimed some of the front runners.

As far as the highly publicized Nissan LMP1s go, they’ve had a troubled race but two of the three cars are still running and are ahead of the CLM (despite Kolles claiming they’d beat them). Given that their hybrid system supplier let them down, having a follow-on effect on power and braking that put them behind the eight ball, I don’t think they should be ashamed of their race so far.

As for some of the teams I’ve been following, there has been trouble. Both of the ESM cars have had problems – mechanical issues for the 30 and a crash for the 31, besides that I don’t think they’ve had the speed they were expecting to have even before their issues. The Viper Exchange bunch spent some time in the pits and dropped down the rankings a bit, although their issues helped out the steady drive the Dempsey/Proton Porsche has been having.

This looks like it could be a very close run thing in both LMP1 and GTE-Pro!
