Warm Springs, GA – On my way home from Columbus to Savannah, I decided to take a detour to visit President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s Little White House in Warm Springs since it wasn’t too far off of my route of travel. The Little White House is where President Roosevelt stayed when he came to Warm Springs for relief from Polio. Arguably, the time he spent in Warm Springs helped influence his New Deal plans and the actions he took to help those impacted by the Great Depression. In addition to the Little White House itself, the Historic Site also features a museum about President Roosevelt.
I’m glad I decided to drop by the Little White House on my way home. I learned a lot about President Roosevelt and what he did to help those in rural areas. He met with farmers and the poor in the Warm Springs area as he visited to relieve his Polio through the years and it led to his formation of the Rural Electrification Administration and to some of his New Deal plans to help the poor and disadvantaged.
