Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day at the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge

Savannah – I’m too antisocial to go to downtown Savannah for the St. Patrick’s Day parade and festival, so I celebrated St. Patrick’s Day by taking a trip to the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge today. The temperature was cool, in the high 50s/lower 60s so I didn’t see but two alligators but there were plenty of birds to be seen: American Coots, Anhingas, Common Gallinules, Cormorants, Egrets of the Great and Snowy variety, Great Blue Herons, Ibis of the Glossy and White variety, and a wide variety of song birds. With the cool temperature and heavy overcast, this morning may not have had the best conditions for a visit, but since I haven’t had the opportunity to visit the refuge in quite a while, it was a great visit.
