Coastal Georgia Military Monitoring Recap; October 2019

October was a good month for military monitoring. There wasn’t as much traffic as normal at Hunter AAF because the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, which most of Hunter’s aircraft belong to, have deployed to Europe, but on the other hand, the 125th FW, Florida ANG returned from a deployment, so they were back active in the offshore W-Areas on a regular basis. A short Sunday/Monday visit to Fernandina Beach and Jacksonville gave me the opportunity to monitor Naval Station Mayport and Naval Air Station Jacksonville from a closer than normal perspective. I even got to see the Royal Navy’s new aircraft carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth, while she was in port at NS Mayport prior to her WESTLANT 19 exercise. While on the topic of NAS Jacksonville, it’s been interesting over the last month or so that some of the P-8s have been using AE6### Mode-S codes. While not military/USCG, I have included some activity from Donjon Marine in this report along with the USCG listings because they are working under the auspices of the Unified Command, which the USCG is part of, controlling the response to the MV Golden Ray shipwreck in St. Simons Sound in Brunswick.

Not quite military, but PELICAN 01-04 flight (4x Brown Pelican) was keeping pretty good formation over St Simons Sound
